Be ware of Scammers when you do online business in mudah.my!

Buyer Purchasing Online with PayPal Scam

Recently, I posted an advertisement of my kitten for sale on few popular online classified-ads website such as mudah.my, petfinder, my.locanto.asia, adpost.com and so on. Indeed, the advertisement is fast to attract the attention of Bengal buyer. However, I received several “interesting” buyers. Without asking much about my kitten, they desperately wanted my kitten. Here is our conversation through email.

I wrote:

   “Hello, what can I help you? I can be contacted through whatsapp or phone call 01x-xxxxxxx.”

 He replied:

   “I’m looking for male Bengal. Thanks for your quick response, I have see the picture of the items and am okay with the price what is the present condition i need to hear from you soonest

 I wrote:

“Thanks for having interest in my kitten. It has just had his 1st vaccine recently. Since you are interested, I suggest you pay the deposit first as a reservation. Then the rest you may settle before you collect. May I know where are you staying?”

 (Within 1 minute)He replied:

   “I’m quite satisfied with the condition and price, and I need you to understand that i am willing and ready to purchase it right away, end the advert, consider me as your favorite buyer. I will be paying the PayPal charges from my account and i will be paying directly into your PayPal account without any delay, and i hope you have a PayPal account. If you have one already, just send me the address to send it to, which is the email address you use for it or you can send me a PayPal money request, so once i receive the details i will go ahead with the payment through PayPal and then i will contact my shipping company after you get the payment. I will need your home address for it to be Picked Up by the Shipping Company..

As soon as i receive this information from you, I will proceed with the payment immediately and I have arranged for a staff of private transport to come to capture the subject in your house and take it to my  door step and that will take care of collection of the document containing full information to collect the item at your door house”

I wrote:

He replied:

   “I insisted on paypal because i don’t have access to my bank account online as i don’t have internet banking and i can’t go to the bank due to the nature of my job, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address so i can make the payments asap for the item and pls if you don’t have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to http://www.paypal.com and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through.”

I wrote:

     “OK”

He replied:

    “Hello, once again, I just want to let you know that i had transfer the money into your Paypal account and I believe you have receive email from PayPal for confirmation because i just received an email from paypal agent Assigned to our transaction that the fund is already Deducted from my account is undergoing process to your account in Which you will have to read the confirmations of payment sent to you by paypal and follow the instruction As stated in the content.

    I will suggest you check your spam folder in your email for you to see confirmation email of the payment. I want you to know that i added and extra fee of RM5,750 to the full payment which i need you to help me send to the agent coming for the pick up and it needs to be sent via Money Gram transfer as that’s the only way They can get it.

    Am sorry I should have inform you about this before making the payment, i do not have access to Money Gram at the moment due to my nature of work .. That is the reason why i added the money to your payment so you can help me to pay the shipping agent.I should have Informed you but I only got the urgent message from the pick up agent that they will need the funds before They can come and pick up when i was about make the payment.

    I have Notified PayPal of the Procedures so there will be no problem.I also added RM250 for the Money Gram charges and for the inconvenience that i cause you.Please help me to send the pickup agent fee to my pickup agent and get back to me. if there’s anything You need to know. more so I will need your home address for the pickup . I would like to reveal it to those who are newbies.

First of all, new breeder might get very excited to get someone who is in oversea to purchase your cat in Malaysia. Wow… going to export your kitten? It is interesting that he could reply me with this long email within 1 minute or maybe only 40 second. Secondly, people rarely purchase cat without asking much questions on the goods. Third, instead of using phone or whatsapp, he insisted to use only email for conversation. Besides that, it is fairly suspicious that he is in Oversea and going to ask somebody to come to collect “the subject” in my house and take it to his door step. Finally, he said he will give extra money and would have me transfer the money to someone in Egypt! Haha… Ridiculous!

These individuals are targeting those with a desire for a quick sale.

*** Remember, never click on the link that provided in the email!!! You might get into trouble…

If I were to proceed, more than likely the buyer would send the payment via PayPal plus the transportation fees, but would freeze the funds. They will probably ask you to transfer payment to the courier via a money transfer service and after they have confirmed they have received it, they will release the payment. Of course they provide you the courier’s account number and “information” as you can see in our conversation.

Obviously, they are not after your goods, but instead the amount for the transportation cost. This is just another form of the inheritance/prince/frozen account/check cashing scam with, maybe, a more believable scenario.

This information is not only for Malaysian, I believe it would happen anywhere in the world. Do share with your loved one.
